Nokia N9 look-alike shown with WP7 by CEO

The Nokia N9 was announced 2 days ago with the MeeGo OS. Something surprising appeared today, Stephen Elop showed the first WP7 smartphone, both smartphones look-alike. Although this may be the cause of the N9 being remade with WP7, the Nokia N9 wasn’t shown by Stephen this time.

There could be a mistake of information on specification databases. If looked closely at the design of both devices, both look the same. The Nokia brand as well as the camera are in the same place.


Vodacom’s New Innovation Center to be greenest in Africa

Vodafone, the parent company of Vodacom shall be situated in the new green building that has started to be built in Midrand, South Africa. This will be the most greenest building in the Vodafone group. The Green Building Council of South Africa is also been contacted so that the building can receive a rating of the Green Star sating system.

This shows that Vodacom is earning with its operations around the globe. There hasn’t been an indication of any financial statement as yet.


Nokia encourages Nigerian developers to better their skills

Nokia has uttered that is encouraging application developers in Nigeria to develop their skills using its corrective platform, the Ovi Store.

2 months ago, a 3 day training course was given to over 200 Nigerian developers. Praveen Shetty, Head of Solutions Sales denied that Nokia was going to weed out Symbian platform development. He also mentioned that there shall be Windows Phone 7 devices towards the end of the year. This is a way to end unemployment rates for the country. The Ovi Store will be re-branded soon to Nokia’s Services.


Get R25 airtime from Cell C when singing up, registering and recharging

Cell C today announced that every new prepaid customer will be getting a welcome of R25 airtime when signing up, registering with RICA and recharging. In a press statement, Cell C mentioned that each customer that purchases a prepaid package between the 24th June and 15 July, they will receive R25 airtime to use in any manner they want.

The prepaid customers will also receive the interest of the R1.50 All Day Rate to any network provider. Everytime a customer recharges with R10 or more, they receive 10 extra minutes.


Unconfirmed Cell C information shows subscriber base growth

Yesterday at the MTN AGM, CEO Dabangwa announced that they grew 7.4 million subscribers, there was no response from its competitors about their growth but it seems as if there has been a type of response. According to MyBroadband, unconfirmed information shows that Cell C has grown its subscriber base to 86 000 users until March 2011.

The financial results haven’t been officially announced as yet. One of the reasons why this has occurred is due to the strong performance in the data market. Cell C suffered a loss in the voice revenue with EBITDA (-21%) and EBITDA margin (-3.5%) lower.



MeeGo-based Nokia N950 pictures released

After much pictures shown and leaked, an official picture of the Nokia N950 appeared. This device isn’t going to be sold commercially, it is only intended for developers.

There still isn’t any price or release date confirmed for the developers. One of the reasons why this MeeGo device own’t be available commercially is due to its beta software that was also developed by Nokia and Intel. This time, not only 1 picture cam forth but 20 more came from Nokia.

Telkom Kenya users to get 3G in 2011 Q3

At a press conference, France Telecom said that Telkom Kenya users will get 3G in the third quarter of this year. The reason why this is happening is because profits are expected to increase after Telkom mobile rates were rejected in Kenya.

This is also an upgrade to allow them to handle 4G in coming time, then they won’t have to waste capital in acquiring more technology for it.

Since the rates were halved, data has become a major issue which also led to many price wars.



iPad 2 galore for Gijma staff

Gijma, a large IT company mentioned that it it is giving away free iPad 2 tablets to its staff starting with 900 travelling staff that are on the road meeting clients. About 3800 employees are to receive iPad 2 tablets including the 900 staff.

According to Techcentral, the idea is to apparently gain the the status of as a iPad application developer and to position the company as a enterprise solution.

Today, Gijma showcased its first app called the Gijma iMag which allows the staff and employees access to intranet and IT services as well as other internal communications.


ICASA bonds with November 2011 deadline for LLU

At a media briefing held in Sandton, Johannesburg, ICASA informed that it will remain with the November 2011 deadline of LLU. The LLU is a course of action where licensees will be able to share their existing services easily and more rapidly to all South Africans. This process allows a opportunity to generate revenue for all the operators.

ICASA also said that it believes to generate over R1 billion per year.

For this to occur, there has to be more people seeking for fixed line connections for broadband services and for them to be provided with the service mentioned ICASA Councillor Thabo Makhakhe.


MTN rethinks new subsidiary board formation

The JSE noted the MTN Group announced that MTN will not establish a new board that was supposed to handle its international operations which was to be handled by former CEO Phuthuma Nhleko. MTN issued a abrupt statement saying that a subcommittee of the board was appointed to investigate this matter.

The new board was to be situated in Dubai, later to be called MTN International while the group head office is located in South Africa. The former CEO Nhleko had no involvement in this decision.
