Samsung has officially confirmed that they will be launching the Samsung Galaxy S II LTE with a 4.5″ Super AMOLED display, the hardware has also reached another level. This will be the first smartphone that will suit LTE, WCDMA and GSM. NFC, an 8 megapixel camera with flash will all be powered by the upgraded 1850mAh.
Samsungs IFA event will present the Galaxy S ll LTE, there hasn’t been any sign of a rumour pointing out to a price or any release date. Other details mentioned that the smartphone will be packed with Android Gingerbread and a 1.5GHz dual-core processor.
Virgin Mobile SA and RIM today announced that Virgin Mobile SA can officially offer Blackberry products for its customers in South Africa. Virgin Mobile will also have a new promotion called Virgin Mobile SA ‘have it all’ which consists of social networking, email, web browsing and BBM, plus 1000 SMSs free every month.
Other companies now have more competition to handle, Virgin Mobile SA now officially has the Blackberry Curve 9520 and 9300 3G smartphone on contract deals.
Blackberry South Africa today announced that Vodacom stores nationwide will be selling the Blackberry Playbook in storage options of 16, 32 or 64GB on the 29th August but after calling Vodaworld, we were told that the tablet will only be available from the 1st of September.
Prices haven’t been revealed, CaCell already has the Playbook 16GB with Wifi at R4500. The Playbook isn’t officially available in South Africa but there is already much competition that Vodacom will have to endure. At the TechEd conference in New Zealand, Microsoft Enterprise Strategist Jeff Johnson showed of 2 tablets, he mentioned that a quad-core Windows Slate will be given at an forthcoming Microsoft event. He may be referring to the BUILD conference coming which is mainly focusing on Windows 8.

Vodacom received a compliance notice whereby they had neglected to change their customer contacts therefore explaining their call rates. Vodacom COO of corporate affairs mentioned that they were surprised to have received this notice from the NCC. Maurice explained that there is already an amendment process, the finalization date was agreed to be 31st October.
Therefore the statement in Today’s Business Day is baseless which explained that Vodacom has refused to amend their customer contracts. Vodacom has said that they working with NCC closely to update their contracts to fall inline with the new policies.
Sony Ericsson today announced that their new device, the Neo V will be available from the fourth quarter of the year which will feature the new Google Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread. The new update have features such as Google Talk with video chat, updated Facebook client, USB peripheral support, Swipe text input as well as screenshot capability.
The Neo V will have similar specs to the Xperia Neo. A 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 processor, five-megapixel camera with auto-focus, face detection, LED flash and 3D sweep panorama, 720p video recording capability, a VGA front-facer, 3.7-inch FWVGA display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine, up to 320MB of memory, 2GB microSD card included as well as a 1500 mAh battery are all packed in the Neo V smartphone.
Microsoft has officially confirmed that upcoming devices will feature Mango with a front facing camera as well as a Skype client but is unsure whether it will be an update or an app. This was confirmed at Redmond’s TechEd event in New Zealand.

Steve Jobs resigned today as Apple CEO, the founder of the successful company mentioned that the reason was due to health problems therefore he couldn’t fulfill his duties. His resignation letter mentioned that he has asked the board of directors that he may be the chairman if possible.
Steve has mentioned that Tim Cook should be appointed as CEO, the board of directors have placed Cook as the CEO and Jobs as the chairman. Apples shares have also had a slight downfall.
